FO Friday / Creative Friday - Ear-warmer Pattern

Managed to finish something this week Friday, though it wasn't any of the WIPs I started earlier! As spring is starting to peek over the mountain tops it is too warm for a winter cap but still not that warm that you don't feel the sting in your ears, so Kay asked me to make her an ear-warmer for her early morning start to school.

So I made it yesterday, took me just under an hour, and I am including the pattern if you would like to quickly knit yourself up one of these.

Unfortunately the pics aren't that great, with the flash you can't see the cable, without the flash you can see the cool colours of the wool, so I have added a bit of both so you can kind of get the idea.

Easy Ear-Warmer Pattern

You need less than a 50g skein, I don't think I even used half of one. I used DK.

Either knit in the round or on DPNs. I used DPNs for this one, size 4.5mm and a similar sized cable needle.

Abbreviations:

p - purl
k - knit
s4cnif - Slip 4 onto cable needle in front of work
k4bn - knit 4 off back needle (so not the cable needle)
k4cn - knit 4 off cable needle.

How to:

Cast on 84 stitches.
Row 1: *p4, s4cnif, k4bn, k4cn, p4* Repeat *-* till end
Row 2 - Row 5: 'p4, k8, p4' Repeat ' - ' till end.
Repeat Row 1- Row 5 four times (i.e. 20rows)
Repeat Row 1 once more.
Cast off.
Weave in end pieces and you are good to go.

    1. Hi Andria,

Don't you also love that they are done in an hour, that's the best part for me! Kay went out to the barn, came home had a shower and then I gave them to her :-D Presto!

    1. Hi stephanie,

That is true, I need to get a bit more creative with the cables though, I am getting bored with the same old same old! Time to branch out ;)

    1. Hi there,

Oh me too. I am definitely not a hat or cap person, but they suit my girls so nicely so it is a pleasure to be able to make them some. It would be nice to be able to wear one now and then, especially when the wind is howling around my ears, but I suffer through, put my collar up and soldier on!

      Thanks for dropping by.

  4. Love it, nice cable. Going to jot down your pattern, and thanks for sharing it. Question....how big is it? Circumference that is, and is it fairly stretchy?

  5. Having just written down your pattern, wanted to ask, are your abbreviations British? I've never seen those abbreviations used before...usually it's just CF or CB ? Curious

    1. Hi Sandy,

Thanks for the questions, it helps me know what people need to know about the patterns, which is really great :-D

The circumference of the ear-warmer is about 58 - 59cm. Mine is kinda stretchy, but not to the extreme. It still has a nice tight fit.

As for the quirky abbreviations, they are 100% Natalie ;-D. You see, as I only recently admitted that I am a knitter, I am still very much a beginner, but don't generally have the patience to teach myself everything from the book, I just start something and see if it works out!

So as I work through my knitting and write down the patterns I tend to put things together so that it makes complete sense to me and so that I can explain exactly what I did to others - hence the abbreviations :-D.

      Thanks for coming past.

  6. Hi Kathleen,

I wish I could crochet, maybe we should get together and learn from each other! Pity we are a bit far away for a quick cup of tea!

    Thanks for coming by.
