This week, I have managed to finish a felting project that I have wanted to try for some time. I wanted to make the girls a bag that they could possibly use to take stuff to school with.
This is Kay's bag. I forgot to show the size of the before and the after, and I am always fascinated how the WIP shrinks when it is done.

After - Roughly 40% smaller than the before |
This is Jas's bag, still on the needles and only about half the distance knitted. Should be finished by Friday.
I love the colours of this bag, feels all African :-D
On the Ereader: The Hound of Rowan. Picked this title for Jas up at the local library in german, she is still busy reading another book so I thought I would read it quickly. Whilst I am no foreigner to reading german books, I am finding that even though I am enjoying the book, I just do not have the concentration necessary to read books in another language without having to re-read every line twice late at night. So grabbed it in english and am enjoying it - will keep you updated.
Don't forget to drop by tomorrow and share your Kitchen Krafts - tips and tricks in the household, or your favourite recipe, or cheapest dinner - with us all. Love to see you then. I will be focusing on Vinegar!
Today I am sharing with the lovely talented people over at:
Oh I do so love bags, it's a weakness of mine. I love the final product, what an inspiration!
ReplyDeleteHi Andria,
DeleteYes, I think they do start to grow on you, as I am knitting I am thinking of all the ways I can make the bags extra cool, so the list of "baggy" things gets longer and longer :-D

This is so gorgeous Nat! Wow!!

Thanks Linda :-D

Love the bags! The first one felted beautifully -- looking forward to seeing the finished African bag, too!
ReplyDeleteHi Paula,
DeleteIt did, I have since embellished it and will share it on the FO this Friday if I manage to get the other bag done on time :-D
Thanks for your visit.

That variegated yarn felted up very nicely. And it looks like it all felted very evenly - good work!
ReplyDeleteHi there,
DeleteThanks, yes it did turn out really nicely. I don't have a top loader so it was one of those projects - put the project in, cross fingers and hope for the best :-D Could have turned out a bit bigger, I have knitted bag no.2 a little bigger so we shall see what comes of that!
Thanks for dropping by.

Wow, seeing the transformation before and after the felting is super-cool!
ReplyDeleteHi Jessica, it is sooo cool, although you knit and knit and knit this enormous WIP and afterwards it is so much smaller. Kay looked at her bag before I felted it and asked me what she should do with it as it nearly touched the floor when she had it over her shoulder LOL!
DeleteThanks for your visit

Looking good! I really like the look of felted bags but haven't given it a try because... well, I sort of hate the actual felting process because I have to do it by hand. :(
ReplyDeleteI am sure if I had to do it by hand I probably would also reconsider doing it as I am sure it is quite time consuming and tiring. Do you not have a laundromat close by that you could possibly use to felt your goodies at?
DeleteThanks for popping around

The felting looks great!
ReplyDeleteHi Marie,
DeleteThanks.

The bags look great! I'm fascinated by felting - it's almost magical the way your knitted fabric changes :)
ReplyDeleteHi Liz,
DeleteI agree, it is really cool to see the before and afters. I love how it almost doesn't even look like it started out as wool when it is done. Bag number 2 is just about complete, will post it tomorrow with some measurements on the befores and afters and try to do some real close-ups (have a bit of a wobbly hand with photos :-O)
Can't wait to see how that one comes out!
Thanks for your visit.

Thanks for showing the before and after pictures! I've never felted anything (on purpose), but hope to someday!
ReplyDeleteHi Wendy,
DeleteBefore I did the machine felting, I had done hand-felted crafts before, but they were tiny and weren't knitted, so it was a new experience to felt something I had knitted. As my machine is a front-loader it is a bit harder to control what is going on, but the wool I used had dead simple instructions - knit and into machine at a 40 degree wash. And that's what I did!
Bag no. 2 has two different ply of wool so I hope it will felt as evenly, only time will tell. Fingers crossed :-D
Thanks for your visit.

Oh my gosh, gorgeous felting. I'm so envious of that bag!
