Tutorial Thursday - Recycling in Style!

When I craft, I always try to recycle something from my home.
Today I will be showing you how to create this nifty looking door sign with nothing more than an ice-cream tub lid!

I use Gonis Products, firstly because these are my absolute favourite crafting products and secondly because I am a distributor :).
I have yet to find any other products that can quite live up to their standard. If these products are not available near you, you would have to find some products that could be used as substitutes.

What I am using to create this Sign:

*Gonis Relief Paste (for a bit of an uneven effect and to cover the rest of the lid, so that I have a white background)
*Gonis Basis Decor (To cover the sides of the lid)
*Gonis Deco Pointer (for the writing)
*Gonis Eiskristal (glass crystals)
Ice-Cream Tub Lid
Serviettes / Napkins - depending on the theme you want to portray. (I am going with Festive as it is almost winter and it fits so nicely.
Scissors
Belt Hole Punch
String/Wool

*If you would like to find out more information about these products, please feel free to email me your questions.

Remove the label from your ice-cream lid, and cover with the relief paste, which gives the lid a nice texture.

Cover the sides of the lid with the Basis Decor.
Cut the serviettes to the size you desire.
Remove the bottom 2 layers of the serviette, so that you only use the top layer.

Place the serviettes on the relief paste where you want to have them.
Press them lightly into the paste.
Allow the paste and serviettes to dry before continuing with the "Decoupage" part.
Using a brush, lightly cover the entire lid with very light strokes until the serviette looks "Bonded" with the lid.
Sprinkle the glass crystals over the lid to give it a "Wintery" sparkly effect.
I used the Deko Pointer to write Welcome :)
I then adorned the little scarf with some other Dekopointer dots.
Using the Hole punch, I made 2 holes on the top side of the lid. This is where I thread the cord through to hang it up. I made my cord by plaiting some leftover yarn I had.
And there you have it!
For those of you who would like a Video - How To....Here it is :)

  6. Hello, fellow Waukeshonian! I found your blog through Sincerely, Paula's "No Rules" Weekend Blog Party. I really like your recycled sign, especially because I love owls. But I think it's a great way to use an old ice cream bucket lid, and your artestry is amazing.
