Stash-Busting Work In Progress

stash-busting 2013

Whew, another month gone, can't believe it!
As today is the end of July I am going to update you on my Stash-Busting efforts for this month.

If you have been following this space each Wednesday, you will have seen that I have spent this month finishing up most of my stash drawer on my Stash-busting Blanket.

stash-busting blanket

I am just about finished my last ball of beige :( Which means I will have to be ordering some more over the next while to complete the blanket and until then it will go into hibernation, which is a pity, but that is just how some things progress!

stash-busting blanket 2013

It has reached the size of just under 132cm which is still a entire meter away from where I need it to be. Now to work out how much more yarn I will be needing --- hmm I am sure hubby will help me with that :)

I want to stay away from ordering new yarn until my drawer is empty for that really great feeling of achievement, so I better hurry and get the new/old projects done and out of the way!

The good news is that as the blanket stands it is stash-busted, so this morning I weighed it and was amazed to find out that the blanket weighs 1'749g :O

stash-busting Challenge

If I add that to my stash-busting total of this year so far:

1'818g
1'749g
3'567g

Wow - 3.5kg of wool - that is incredible!

So a recap on my stash-busting drawer and projects:

1. Jassy' Jumper - Completed
2. Birthday Gift for my Sister-In-Law - Completed
3. Birthday Scarf for Kayla - Completed
4. Socks for me - Completed
5. Socks for Jas - Completed
6. Socks for Kay - Completed
7. Pullover for Hubby
8. Cleo for me - busy
9. Scarf for me
10. Fingerless Gloves for hubby - Completed
11. Perfectly Pink Sweater - Completed

I will be picking up my Cleo again after today and try to get that finished asap as I would like to move on to hubby pullover before the cold returns!

One-Of-A-Kind Flowers - A Tutorial Linky Party

one of a kind flowers tutorial

Welcome back to Tutorial Thursdays Linky Party.
Today I am going to show you how to create these awesome looking flowers for an eye-catching vase deco.

This is another craft I was shown by a wonderfully creative swiss lady - Thank you Esther :) As they are so wonderfully simple to create, I am sharing this craft with you all here today.

To make these easy flowers you will need:

styrofaom ball flowers

A Styrofaom ball for each flower
A packet of ear buds
A kebab stick to use for the stem and one extra to make the holes for the ear buds.
Gonis Decor* (A universal paint to be used on all surfaces)

*I use Gonis products as I am a distributor of these amazing craft products. If you can't find these products in your vicinity you will have to substitute them hence the descriptions in brackets.

1. Cut your ear buds in half, stick one kebab stick in your Styrofoam ball and paint the ball should you wish your flower to have a colourful inside :)

2. Once the ball is dry, use the other kebab stick to make individual holes for the single ear buds - don't push it in too deep, you can always push it in deeper later if necessary.

If you have coloured the ball I suggest that you don't make too many holes at once, as you may not find them anymore. You can of course just push the ear buds in by themselves, but I found this to be very strenuous work and not as easy as it seems!

3. Test the depth of one or two holes with an ear bud.

4,5. In a lid, add some Gonis Decor* and water. Dip each tip into the paint mix and then stick in the predestined hole on the ball. Don't let it suck up too much paint, as it gives quite  nice effect if they are only partially dunked.

Once completed, stand in a vase to dry.

Arrange in a vase and admire! :)

stash-busting blanket

I can't quite believe it, already 502 posts?
Wow, thank you so much to all of you out there who support and visit on a regular basis, I have grown and learnt so much in the past two years, it has been wonderful thus far :)
To celebrate this fact, I will be hosting a really big Goody Bag Giveaway in the first week of August so do come back next week and see what you could win!

How has your last week been?

Mine has been productive WIP-wise, and I have set myself a goal of crocheting a ball of yarn onto my Stash-Busting Blanket each day.

Drops Karisma

I have 4 more balls to go and then my stash that I can use up for this project is complete! So, to complete my stash-busting blanket I am going to need to purchase some new yarn - LOL how ironic :D

I am so excited for Friday. It is time for this month's Knitting Madness Hangout and this time it looks as if we may have a full house. I can't wait to meet all of the lovely ladies who have signed up for the event.
On Monday I will tell you all about it :)

Tomorrow I will be sharing this with you all on Tutorial Thursdays:
