Secret Santa Bookmark Exchange 2014

Secret Santa Bookmark Exchange

Can you believe it is that time of the year again?
With only 13 weeks to Christmas I am guessing that most of you are gearing up your handmade bag of goodies for this festive occasion - I know I am :)

Being our 3rd annual event (can you believe that?) I decided that I would like to have a Handmade Exchange with a difference.

Those of you who take part in Ginny's Yarn Along each week tend to include your latest book being read.

I thought it would be a really nice idea to incorporate both our hobbies as well as our books into this years' challenge.

And so I introduce to you.......

Wednesday Fun!

WIP Wednesday

How has your week been?

Have you been busy and creative?

Those are my favourite kind of weeks :)

This week I have managed to work on a couple of my products and am quite glad to see through the pictures that they have progressed a little.

Let me bring you up to date:

Juliana

Drops Baby Merino

My Juliana is growing, somewhat slowly, but there is still movement.
I have roughly 10cm left before I make the next armhole and then am on the home stretch :)

That makes roughly 80cm left to knit before the sleeves.

Tardis Socks Drops Fabel

I have progressed quite nicely on the first Tardis sock and have already turned the heel and am busy on the foot.
Because the size is perfect for Jas, I am making the first pair for her (a Christmas pressie) and then will re-size the pattern to make a pair for Hubby for Christmas.

I am planning a pair of socks for Kay too, they are still in the planning as I have a definite pattern in mind, I will share it with you once it gets going.

I will be starting my Rebel Lace Cardi later on today.
I spent the weekend trying to reach gauge - yes, believe it or not I swatched - 3 times! That is definitely a first for me!

Rebel Lace Cardi Craftsy

Drops Muskat

I can't wait to get going. I love this part of the pattern and can't wait to see how the cardi progresses.
What I love about broomstick lace is the speed with which the project grows.

Have you done this Craftsy class before?

And my last project to share with you today:

I am busy creating some new Pewter boxes for an upcoming market and plan on giving them their "faces" today :) They have been stained and sanded and are ready for the next step.

This is a big hobby of mine and I can't wait to finish them off later.
I will share the finished projects with you once they are done.

On the reading front - I am still reading the same book as last week and hope to finish it up soon.

I hope you have a great rest of your week.
See you soon

I will be sharing this post with all of my lovely Wednesday Friends.

Broomstick Lace

Broomstick Lace Craftsy

I am in love with the concept of Broomstick Lace :)
This amazing looking technique is sooo easy it is quite unbelievable!

Yesterday I started on my Craftsy Course - Beyond Basic Broomstick Lace

Beyond broomstick lace

I started in the late afternoon, and one hour later had already finished the first project!

This morning I am raring to go and will be starting the Rebel Lace Cardie -  I am so excited :)

If you have been wanting to try a Craftsy Course for a while, and you love crochet, this is one I would warmly recommend.

Jennifer Hansen gives you a great lesson, she explains the basics, but also gives you tips on how to correct errors, work gauge and size properly, as well as many other tidbits that you only gain from years of experience.

This weekend would be the best place to signup too as Craftsy are having a Fall Sale which is huge!

Simple Man Wristlets

Simple Wristlets

Drops Fabel

Here are Hubby's Wristlets.

This is one of my go-to patterns which I change according to who I am knitting for.

If you are interested in making your hubby a pair the pattern is as follows:

Cast on 66st on a size 2.5mm (US 1.5) circular needle, or DPNs with some fingering weight yarn. (roughly about 50 - 100m depending on your required cuff length)

Knit the pattern as follows - knit 3, purl 3 in the round until your desired length has been reached.

For Hubby's Wristlets I knitted 40 rounds.
Cast off in the elastic bind-off method.

List of projects that are still in my queue:

  1. Hat for Jas - Complete
  2. Crochet shorts
  3. Another Hat for Jas
  4. Another Slouch for Kay - Complete

New Additions

WIP Wednesday

Finally, something new to share with you all :)

First off my regular WIP as of late - my Juliana:

Juliana Drops Baby Merino

I am halfway to the next armhole and then will be on the last stretch - and I mean stretch, of knitting!
At the moment it looks like a very long, odd looking scarf!
I still really like the pattern and if you look in the picture above you will see the great definition those dropped stitches give the piece (on the left they have been dropped already and on the right they will be dropped once I get to the next armhole)
I love the project but I guess I will only be making one of these, for as much fun as it is, it is a huge amount of knitting and it leaves me itching to get on to some other projects.

Which I happily oblige this week :)

This yummy package arrived for me yesterday:

And with that a whole lot of queued projects to start on ;)

Hubby's' wristlets are complete (Will share with you on Friday) and I have merrily chosen two new projects to start with this week.

Another surprise project for hubby - Tardis Socks

Drops Fabel

He and Jas are huge Dr. Who fans and I thought it would be a fun project to knit them each a pair of socks.
I have adjusted this pattern slightly so far as I really like a snug fit around the calf and so I have reduced the number of stitches I cast on.

I would have liked the blue to be a bit more blue, it looks more blue in the picture than it does in reality but I hope that with the other colour patterning it will all come together.

I am knitting this pattern in Drops Fabel.

Next -

I have been wanting to get back to my Craftsy courses for a while and with my yarn order I received my Drops Muskat that I have decided to use for my Broomstick Lace Rebel Cardie from the Craftsy course: Beyond Basic Broomstick Lace

The first project is a sunglasses case, and for this project I have chosen to use some Drops Cotton Merino.

Drops Cotton Merino

I can't wait to get going on this project and will be re-watching the course this evening :)

On the reading front things have changed too :D

I have finished "The Boy Who Went to War" and have started reading "Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children"

So far I am enjoying the story.

How has your week been until now?

See you soon

A little longer....

Juliana

I hope you can see the progress?
I couldn't let myself sit down and write this post until I had some improvement/growth to show you!
I have been knitting the entire day (even though I thought it wouldn't take me more than an hour at the most) to get to the first armhole!

And now....I am finally there.....

Drops Baby merino

I also have dropped my first lot of stitches and to my biggest relief they worked out fine :) This is what the finished pattern will look like:

dropped stitch pattern

So now that I know the pattern works all I have to do is finish the panel, which encompasses another 1,10m of knitting, and then I can finally start on the sleeves!

Oh boy, I do hope I see the end of this project sometime in the near future!

Hubby's Wristlets have also grown a little since last week, thanks to my hairdresser visit last week ;)

Drops Fabel

Over the weekend I attended a market to sell my soaps. It went really well and I thought I would share what my stand looked like with you:

Seifen Paradies

How has your week been thus far?

See you soon
