Wet Wednesday

Wednesdays

The title should read Wet Tuesdays as I am posting this on Tuesday and I only realized that I had made a mistake about 2 hours after posting it, oh well, I'll have another Wednesday tomorrow then shall I?

My WIP image is rather monotone this week - I will have to do something about that!

Let me tell you about my progress from this week:

Hubbys fingerless gloves

I have knit a couple more rows on these but haven't progressed extremely far just yet.

drops muskat

Next up: My cotton cardie.

If you recall last week I announced that I was going to begin knitting my Grandpa Cardie with all my balls of Drops Muskat (100% Egyptian Cotton) instead of the called for 100% Wool.

I did actually cast on, and had this gnawing feeling in my stomach that I shouldn't knit the project in the cotton.

Anyway, I ended up starting the cardigan a couple of times and actually decided to make a (are you sitting down for this?) SWATCH, yip, something I vowed never to do!
Alas, even that didn't help, I just didn't see myself getting to my happy place with that pattern and this yarn!

So there was nothing for it than to peruse through Ravelry and Garnstudio to find a fitting pattern for the yarn.

I eventually did find one and am quite happy with my choice thus far!

peach macaroon drops

I have chosen to make Peach Macaroon, a Garnstudio Pattern, that is made with Drops Muskat. So a perfect fit for my yarn, and I think I have more yarn than I will be needing to complete this project which is also a bonus!

I did hit a snag though when it came to the initial Raglan increases.
The pattern calls for markers included in the increase and I am so used to seeing the pattern state where you need to move the marker, that for quite a while I just sat here staring at the pattern wondering how I was supposed to make the increases asked for!

Thank goodness the internet is filled with wonderfully talented Drops lovers, who managed to help me overcome my mind block and move on my way :)

I am really enjoying this knit at the present moment, although there are quite a couple of charts to follow simultaneously.

4-shaft weaving

My scarf project at work is moving forward nicely. The image above is the beginning stages of the warp, but I have progressed quite a bit since this photo was taken and should be completing the first of the three scarves I plan to make this week.

I will share another image with you next week again.

Reading Wise: I have just started "The Sunbird" by Wilbur Smith. I haven't read enough to form an opinion but hope to be able to do that soon.

botanical knits

These lovely books arrived in the post last week.

I am not usually a knit pattern book kind of person, but I couldn't resist these two lovelies - Botanical Knits. I have already chosen some gorgeous projects out of them to make in the very near future so stay tuned :)

I wish you all a warmer week than we are having right now (it feels like we are heading back into winter today :(, not so much fun!)

See you again next time.

I will be sharing this post with all my weekly creative friends, do come on over and join in the fun!

In Love with Weaving

Warped loom

Over the last two weeks I have been honing my weaving skills on multi-shafted looms.
I must tell you that I am totally in love with them and whilst sitting here writing this I feel a little cold-turkey going on :)

At the end of the two weeks we warped the loom and created our own project. I decided that I wanted to better my skills in the silk department and so chose to create a tussah silk scarf.

2/2 Twill variation

For the pattern I chose a 2/2 Twill variation and love the effect it has!

I finished the scarf in two days. The first day I was very enthusiastic and tried very hard to keep my beating as regular as I could.

By the end of the second day I was tired and wanted to take a break, but at the same time I wanted to finish the project and so I pushed forward which made a BIG difference in the cloth which I only noticed as I was about to finish the scarf.

My patterning is a lot looser from the moment I wanted to finish for the day, but I have decided to leave it in the scarf as a reminder to myself that when I feel like I need a break, I need to walk away from the loom and return the next day instead of stubbornly pushing forward!

Silk Scarf Handmade

This is an image of the finished scarf, the colours aren't as vibrant in this photo as they are in real life, but you can see the wonderful shine the silk has.

handwoven silk scarf

This is more of an actual colour image :)
I love the feel and the drape of the scarf!
Will I be making another?
Definitely!
I actually have already finished a warp for another 3 scarves to get started on at work asap :)

What have you managed to finish this week?
Feel free to link your Finished Objects for the week below :)

Until next time,

New Projects

I have finally managed to start a new knitting project.

ben lomond

I have started on a new pair of cuffs/wristlets for hubby.
He loved the last pair so much that he told me he is scared to wear them too often incase they wear through - so adorable :)

So of course I gladly cast on another pair, this time in a darker grey, but in the same Baby Merino.

I have many sock projects on the line over the next while, but I do feel my fingers getting itchy for a bigger project and have a couple in mind.

Drops Muskat

I think I will be starting with my Grandpa cardigan.

I have a load of Drops Muskat which was reserved for another project but now I feel like I really want to knit a cardigan and so this one is the one I will begin with. I know that this cardie asks for 100% wool, but I have 100% cotton here so I am going to give it a bash!

Have you substituted wool with cotton before?
Did your project turn out how you had hoped?

I am back home after my two week intensive weaving course which I thoroughly enjoyed.

handwoven

My silk scarf, which I warped last week is now off the loom and I will proudly introduce it to you on Friday. (You will also have a platform to show off your FOs available to you so come on over and link your completed projects.)

warping the loom

The techniques I learnt last week have already been put into action and I have warped our 4-Shaft loom at work with some more Tussah silk and will be making 3 different scarves with similar patterning as mine.

I will share them with you as I progress.

Reading Wise: I am reading "Dear Scarlett" which I think falls into a young adult fiction. I am enjoying this book quite a lot and find myself reading chapter after chapter :)

What have you been busy with over the last week?

See you soon

My Weaving Week

Over the last week I have been having so much fun, and so little sleep :)

I have been on a weaving course, trying out various patterns and tie ups.
Week one of the two week course is now finished and these are some of the sample fabrics which I managed to produce so far:

Handwoven Jacket material

cushion fabric

Tussah Silk Scarf

Double sided blanket material

Place-mat material out of linen

Handtowel technique
A Hand-towel pattern

As I learnt all the pattern names in German I will try and find out what they are called in English to share the exact patterns with you too if you are interested?
 :)

I still need to zigzag and wash my samples so I have a good "Before" and "After" view. I hope to that today and will share the results with you next time.

As my course has me doing really long days, I haven't much time for anything else. The long train rides have helped me to finish Kay's Socks which I will share with you on Friday.

Next week I will be working on an individual project of my choice, I can't wait to see how that turns out :)

See you soon

Rummaging Through My Working Stash Drawer

Rummaging through my working stash drawer

This morning I decided my WIP bag was looking rather lonely with just the one pair of socks inside of it, so I thought I could remedy that by going through my working stash drawer and seeing what I still have inside of it.

It seemed to do the trick :)
I have spent this morning going merrily through Ravelry to find myself some small side projects that I can take along with me and do as in-between work when my bigger projects, which I have planned, need a break.

So let me get you all up to date - First Kay's socks which are actually on my needles!

red heart sock yarn

These should be on their way off the needles at the latest tomorrow, I am hoping, as I have around 2cm to go before I start the toe decreases.

Now on to my finds from my drawer:

Drops Fabel Socks

These will be knit for Jas

Jaywalkers drops fabel

This pair will be for me: Jaywalkers

Mens socks drops fabel

These will be for a new pair for Hubby

socks for a friendly neighbour

This Fabel will make a nice pair of cabled socks for a sweet neighbour of ours.

wooly socks for kay

This yarn will go towards making Kay a nice fluffy pair of winter socks.

toe-up socks on Craftsy

This ball I have reserved for my Craftsy Course - Toe-Up Socks

Ben Lomond for Hubby

Hubby loves the wristlets I made him for Christmas so much that I will get on to making him another pair of these soon.

drops alpaca

These pretty balls of alpaca yarn will be used to make Jas a cute looking hat.

So, now my Project Bag is once again filled with little projects, I will be sharing them again with you as I begin to work on them.

I am still figuring out what my next big project will be.
As soon as I have it all sussed out I will be sure to share them with you :)

reading

Reading Wise: I am almost finished my book from last week. Then I will continue reading "Swiss Watching" which I had a quick peek into over the weekend and it looks rather entertaining :)

Other than that I am looking through the books:

Well, that is it from me for today, I will catch up with you all again later in the week I hope.

See you soon
