Friday FO Fun

This Friday I have two things to share with you:

Firstly, here is my finished silk scarf. This was one of three that I started earlier in the year.

silk scarf

I am glad they are finished and I can start to focus on new projects!

Secondly, I managed to try out my Lutterloh system which I received last week through the mail.

I wanted to make this skirt:

Lutterloh pattern 176

I did feel rather anxious to begin with as there are no instructions on how to put the pieces together, which piece needs interfacing / facing and which materials to use.

So I had to wing it!

I kinda knew what I had to do and I kinda knew what I wanted it to look like!

I started out with my measurements and then "drawing" the pattern accordingly.

Lutterloh patterns

A tip for those of you using this system for the first time: Photocopy the pattern pieces and cut them apart so that you have small pieces to work with. I didn't do this with this pattern piece and had to end up folding my file insert into thirds so that I could copy the pattern correctly!

Lutterloh french curve

Once the pattern was transferred to my packing paper, I cut it out (I drew it with seam allowances included) and went about sewing my skirt together.

I faced the front flap and used linen for the whole skirt.

I moved through the project very slowly, and made notes of everything I did incase I would like to repeat the skirt pattern.

Luckily there is such a thing as Youtube
The steps that I was unsure of I looked up on Youtube and managed to find small clips and whole videos which helped me to feel a little more confident on my progress.

I must admit that I am rather impressed with the outcome of this skirt!

I almost managed to sew all the way around in the ditch.

decorative stitches

Nothing is quite complete without my decorative seam stitching!

It fits me really well, is quite comfortable, and the girls were impressed enough to grab my Lutterloh folder to see what they would like to make :)

Have you used this system already?
What are your thoughts on it?

Have you something completed to share with us today?
Feel free to add your link below :)

Have a great weekend.

Productive.

wip wednesday

This week has been quite productive so far :)

I actually got a little of my sock knitting done - it does help that the weather has cooled down a little since last week, so it does make it easier for me to consider knitting again!

I managed to get some more sewing done over the weekend, and will show you the result of my efforts on Friday.

Besides the project I finished I plan on starting to make some pajamas for the family for the upcoming winter.

For this I am using this Butterick pattern:

Butterick B5153

and will be working my way through my next sewing course:

Learn to sew Pajama Pants

I actually can't wait to get into this project as I am really quite enjoying my sewing experience at the moment!

At work this week I have managed to design and warp three projects. Two of them are almost ready to weave and the third will have to wait a while.

cotolin waffel cloth

This will be waffle cloths, made with cotolin.

arm patronic

And this is a test warp so that I can try to figure out our computerized loom!

cotolin and teddy

This warp will also make kitchen towels

I can't wait until our build is complete and my craft room stands! Then I can dress my own loom with all of my creations!

Reading Wise: I finished last week's book, have read another in between and am now reading a biography on Beethoven, so far it is really quite interesting.

What have you been up to this week?

I will be sharing this post with all my creative friends!

Have a good week
See you on Friday

Friday FO Fun!

Sewing seams

I have finally managed to create a garment that doesn't look like it has been badly handmade!

Wooohoooo!

What I loved about this course:

Nicole takes you through the garment process step-by-step, I love courses like that! They actually teach me something because I move through the process with the instructor and learn loads along the way!

I must admit that I took it upon myself to not make any shortcuts with this project, to sew and baste and iron when I was told to and to enjoy the process, which I did.

I have, until now never created such incredible looking seams!

facing how to sew

Just look at this incredible looking facing!
I would never have achieved that before!

sewing in sleeves

The sleeves turned out really well, as did the darts and I am so impressed with the contrast band - it is like I didn't actually sew this dress!

learn to sew: shift dress

Deficit about this dress:

The linen!
Believe it or not, I had just finished ironing it before I took this photo.

As much as it is a deficit, the dress feels amazing to wear - perfect for the weather we are having right now.

I think I will make another shorter version of this dress at a later date.

Have you taken this class?

Share your dresses below :)

With my new learned skills I think I will try another dress next week :)

What have you finished this week?

I would love to see - share your FOs from this week below.

See you next week.

Sewing a Dress

Sewing a Dress

Today we are having a little break from our incredible heatwave!
So much so that it actually feels cold!

Over the last couple of days we have had temperatures of up till 38.5° Celcius.
I seriously wondered if I would melt!!

Today's temperature is 26°C which I much prefer, I actually feel like I can walk around again and do stuff which has been almost impossible to do lately, I haven't even been able to write a blog post or two for fear of shorting out the PC with my excessive sweating!

Because of the high temperatures I have decided to focus entirely on sewing this week, and with all of my material from last week dry and ready, I thought I would start with Nicole Vasbinder's - Learn to Sew a Shift Dress.

Nicole Vasbinder on Craftsy

I am totally loving this course and am thrilled at how good the project is looking!
I am just about finished my dress and will share it with you all on Friday as I just have the hem to complete today :)

Once this project is finished I will either be starting another dress or some pajamas for the family - watch this space.

Lutterloh

My "Golden Rule" arrived through the mail today and I can't wait to get into some of these patterns too and see where my sewing may lead me!

As soon as I have tried it out I will let you all know what I think about this system :)

Reading wise - Nothing new to tell, still busy with last weeks book and still enjoying it.

What have you been up to this week?

I will be sharing this post with all my weekly creative friends.
Until next time
